Tile Hole Saw Drilling Slow? Causes and Recovery
Heat and packed dust often start a cycle in which the rim stops exposing diamond and extra pressure makes it slower.
Stop for heat, damage or vibration
Blackening, burning odor, unusual sparks, severe runout, cracking or almost no progress under feed requires an immediate stop. Let the tool stop and cool before inspection.
Decide whether it was always slow
A new bit that starts slow suggests a material, speed or machine mismatch. A bit that slows after several holes more often points to packed debris, heat, glazing or wear.
Clear dust, slurry and core material
Withdraw as directed and clear side slots, dust, slurry and trapped cores after the tool stops. Packed waste blocks cooling and hides the cutting surface.
Restore correct cooling
Dry-rated tools need cooling pauses; wet drilling needs clean water at the rim and slurry removal. Do not assume extended no-load spinning repairs a heat-damaged bit.
Check for a glazed rim
A smooth shiny cutting face with poor diamond exposure may be glazed. Dress it only with a material and method approved by the manufacturer.
Verify material, arbor and RPM
Use a bit specifically rated for hard porcelain where required, disable hammer mode and confirm secure arbor fit. Never exceed the marked maximum RPM.
Correct feed pressure
Use stable light-to-moderate feed. Excess pressure stalls the machine, blocks debris and increases heat; fluctuating pressure causes impact and chipping.
Inspect runout and remaining diamond
Check the bit body, adaptor, chuck and spindle. Replace cracked, deformed, missing or exhausted diamond sections and any assembly with persistent runout.
